Peter Lynn NABX Buggy Review

As part of the ongoing development process, along with inventing a new sport(Kite boating) Peter has been busy working on his Nth generation buggy. The latest offering is named after our event as it seems that we now play a role in testing of his equipment each year. I gave the beast a couple of spins, both over powered, under powered and pulling a small female type hottie in a standard buggy strapped to the rear axle.

The buggy itself weighs in at a hefty 77lbs! It is 22 inches tall due to the rear tires, and has a wheel base of 53 to 58 inches. The rear axle is right at 57 inches long with the ability to use standard tires or the taller 22 inch babies this has on it.

This buggy has a full suspension with dead rear axle(axle splits in half for travel). The shocks are made of a composite rubber/urethane that come in different durometers for a degree of adjustability. The travel front and rear is slight, just over an inch, but really seems to be just what a buggy needs.

The seat is fully adjustable, but beware large riders, it fits me very snug. Peter has set this up for hard riding or racing and it fits to keep you in so you can use lots of power. You must enter from the front, and slide yourself down into the seat. A bit awkward at first, but it works really well. I've been using the so called monster buggy for the last year and have gotten used to being able to move around, due to its wide open style seat, so may be altering this one for cruising. For racing though, this is the ultimate set up.

My first ride was at El Mirage and I not able to go on the lake bed due to the water, but had to go along the very bumpy shoreline. I was flying an 8m Venom which gave me as much power as I could handle and then some. I found that I could ride thru bumps at speed with ease, in fact I could ride way faster than was comfortable with excellent control and minimum slide toward the kite, even where there was gravel on hard.

Upwind was amazing. My first ride out at Ivanpah, I noted the direction most buggies were going and blazed a path way way upwind of that. This beast just rides on rails. It still turns just as sharp as any other buggy, but has such a solid feel. I'd love to comparison test with the the Libre buggys' as it feels as good as one of them but with the advantage of the suspension.

I can't wait to go over 60 in this buggy. I'm sure that high speeds are just going to be no problem. Towing was certainly no problem and I was even able to keep up with Blake who was flying a bigger kite!

Peter did mention that going backwards was a bit problematic due to the increased trail and rake of the front end. You have to keep the input very small and use both feet.

I loved the buggy so much that I bought it, in fact it was hard to get a ride in it, as it would never sit around for long with out someone ‘borrowing it' for a ride. Right now if you want one, it is a special order to New Zealand. I'm not sure the cost but will try and find that out for us. All in all I rate this buggy the best I've ridden for large open areas. I will keep my smaller buggies at home for beach/trick riding, but for high speed, long distance, hour in the seat fun, this is the ONE!
